WASSCE Student Killed By Stray Bullet In Ibadan

A tragic incident unfolded in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday as a student heading to sit for the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), organized by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), was allegedly killed by a stray bullet.

The incident reportedly occurred along Gbagi Market Road in the Egbeda Local Government Area. Eyewitnesses claim that a police officer, while in pursuit of a suspect, fired shots — one of which allegedly struck the student.

The victim was said to be riding on a motorcycle with his father and twin brother at the time of the incident.

One witness, identified only as Ajani, said, “A police officer opened fire while chasing a fleeing vehicle. One of the bullets reportedly hit the student. The student was riding on a motorcycle with his father and twin brother.”

Another eyewitness added, “The deceased was on his way to the examination center alongside his twin brother when the tragedy happened.”

The student was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

In a show of outrage and grief, a group of irate youths carried the student’s body to the Oyo State Secretariat at Agodi, demanding justice and calling on Governor Seyi Makinde to intervene.

The remains of the deceased have since been deposited at the Adeoyo Hospital morgue.

As of the time of this report, there has been no official statement from the police or state authorities regarding the incident.
