The member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah has dismissed insinuations that he is considering joining the governing All Progressives Congress APC, saying “God forbid”.

Ogah of the Labour Party had come under heavy criticism for describing President Bola Tinubu as intelligent before his inauguration as a member of the 10th National Assembly.

At a retreat in Abuja, he said he was surprised after listening to the President, that he has a good grasp of the issues. But this did not go down well with a section of Labour Party members who interpreted that to mean that Ogah is considering joining APC.

Also at a thanksgiving service at his home town in Uturu town, Isuikwuato local government area of the state, the newly inaugurated lawmaker said it was time to join forces with whosoever that is in power in order to move the country forward, saying the period of politicking was over.

This again did not settle down well with some critics who accuse him of accepting the process that brought President Tinubu to power as Nigerian leader, a process Labour Party members believe was not transparent and marred by irregularities.

But responding, he referred critics to a video where he said that he is a member of the Labour Party and had no intention of joining APC.

The video was made during consultation by the then Speakership aspirant, Hon. Tajudeen Abass and his deputy, Hon. Benjamin Kalu in Abuja.

On the said video, he said he was supporting the two candidates for the principal offices of the House of Representatives for the purpose of national unity, hoping that in the next four years, there will be a Labour Party.

He said if the presidential candidate of the party, Mr. Peter Obi who is contesting the election of Tinubu in court wins, Labour Party will also seek the support of APC.

He said, “What we have come to do in Abuja, the issue of party line has moved a little, what we are talking about now is the unity of Nigeria because election is over.

“We believe that if we see the best, we support the best, peradventure if by God’s grace Peter Obi wins tomorrow, we will also seek their support.

“So if you say you are not going to support them because they are of APC, how do you expect them to support you tomorrow if you are the president.

“This is a logical judgment. We are here because we have seen character in them, we have seen integrity in them, we have seen capacity and that is what our leader (Obi) is preaching.

“Not minding the party they are coming from, that they are of the APC does not make them our enemies, but at the end of the day we pray that God will give us victory and we pray that they will also support us”.
