UPDATE Xenophobia: Nigerians under siege in South Africa

The attack on Nigerians and other nationals in South Africa has exacerbated this afternoon.

Earlier, we reported that the South African police were putting the situation under control.

However, our correspondent in Johannesburg says the attack has spread to more areas.

Heads of Nigerian community in South Africa are sending messages to warning Nigerians of high risk areas.

Videos sent by The Dune reporter show how some is burnt alive and a group of men looting cars and shops in broad daylight.

Below is a warning circulated to Nigerians in Johannesburg.

• Silverton
Albany truck drivers still protesting in silverton. Road closed and tyres burning in Watloo road.

Protest action. Burning tyres and looting.
Please be careful and avoid at all costs

• Johanessburg South – Turfontein

Avoid Turffontein, Hay st, Turf Club st, they have closed these roads, burning fires across the roads, you can’t get through at all.

• Gauteng – Germiston, Angelo
Guys please avoid by all means Angelo route towards Germiston. The locals are fighting with the Nigerian & foreign nationals. Avoid the area
