Ukwa West: Obuzor Ward APC Denies Nwaji’s Membership Of Party, Dismisses PDP’s Claim Of Defection Of Members

The Obuzor Ward chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, has said that Chief Sylvanus Nwaji, the immediate past Transition Chairman of the local government was not a member of the APC.

They also dismissed as false the recent publication by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that about fifty APC members in Obuzor Ward had defected to the PDP, adding that Mr. John Daniel mentioned in the news report was unknown to the APC and no APC member was sighted in the pictures that accompanied the report.

It should be recalled that Nwaji, who is from Obuzor Ward, had gone to the country home of former governor of Abia State and Senate Chief Whip, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, at Igbere to declare for the APC.

In a communique reached by the Ward during a meeting last Saturday at Umuelechi, Obuzor, Asa in Ukwa West, the Ward said it was not against Nwaji joining the party but that the former Chairman needed to mend fences with those he offended at the grassroots with his leadership style.

The communique which was signed by the Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Obuzor Ward, Comr. Kingsley Chinonso Ebere, Barr. Sam Ogbonna, Ward leader, Hon. Chukwu Ogbuji, Youth leader, Ukwa West APC Caretaker Committee, Deaconess Augustina Ekwuluo, Women leader and Alh. Dandy Oforji, Ukwa West APC Caretaker Committee Treasurer, stated that though Chief Uzoma Nwaji was not a member of the APC, members of the party in Obuzor Ward were not averse to his joining the party.

The communique reads in part,

“That our hands are open to receive him when he desires to join APC from his Ward with the proviso that he would mend fences with those he offended in the grassroots through his leadership style and turn over a new leaf in totality”.

It continued, “That his (Nwaji’s) press release as published on the social media platforms is immaterial hence the Obuzor Ward APC chairman and the executive including LGA executive who hails from Obuzor Ward are not aware of his defection to APC,

“That Hon Chief Sylvanus Uzoma Nwaji just paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Whip of the Senate and leader of APC South East and not the purported defection as being propagated by social media influencers because charity, as we ought to know, begins at home.

“That he Nwaji would promise to adhere to the fullest the Chief Whip’s instruction of sweeping away all the evils around him anytime he wants to join APC from Obuzor Ward.

“That the publication made by PDP Obuzor Ward which opined that one Mr John Daniel had defected to PDP with more than fifty(50) members of APC from Obuzor Ward is false and watery in content because Obuzor Ward APC has no member bearing such name in her record and no member of APC was sighted in the pictures posted on the social media platforms by the PDP e-rats“.

The APC chapter also passed a vote of confidence on the Deputy Chairman, Abia State APC Caretaker Committee, Chief Ogunka Adiele John, who they described as a very respected person in the State APC.
