It was a carnival of sorts as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, last Wednesday, at Obehie, the Commercial hub of Ukwa, Abia State, received into their fold the former State Deputy Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Ogunka Adiele John.
Members of the PDP and supporters of the former APC Chieftain, trooped out in their numbers, defying the heavy down pour, to show their solidarity.
Speaking at the occasion which held at the PDP Secretariat, Obehie, Ukwa West Local Government Area, Chief John, restated that he joined the party because of their sense of direction and unity of purpose. In his words, “being peaceful is not the absence of some misunderstandings, but the PDP knows how to manage them well, adding that on the contrary, “the APC in Abia State has been bedeviled by crisis since 2015 which I thought would been resolved, but unfortunately, the crisis has continued till date, and the present crisis in the party is getting out of hand “
Chief John, who defected to the PDP, along side the following APC stalwarts, Chukwu Ogbuji, LG Youth Leader, Chief Uche Okeke, LG Financial Secretary, Rev. Augustine Amadi, LG Legal Adviser, Mr. Godspower Alozie, LG Asst. Financial Secretary, Mr. Chukwuma Oguguo, Chairman of Ipu West Ward, stated that any political party that could not win elections had lost its relevance, adding that there was no way a political party could win when there were absence of the ingredients of discipline, unity and peace in the party.
The State Chairman of the PDP, Rt. Hon. Alwell Asiforo Okere, while praising Chief John for his decision, assured him and his followers of places in the PDP, stressing that the party was large enough to accommodate all interests.
Prominent members of the PDP that attended the occasion included former Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, ASOPADEC / State Commissioner Designate, Chief Sam Nwogu, Deputy Chairman of Ukwa West LG, Chief John Ajuzieogu, the LG party Chairman, Mr. Kingsley Enyite, former Commissioner, Chief Ikpechukwu Onuoha and the Chairman of Ukwa East LG, Chief Chuks Wabara.
Others were former member, Abia State House of Assembly, Mr. Tony Mezie Nwubani, former ASOPADEC Commissioner, Barr. Henry Chilaka and one-time Ukwa West Transition Chairman/Commissioner, Chief Ikechukwu Eche.
