Ukwa East Stakeholders Pass Vote Of Confidence On Governor Otti

Stakeholders of Ukwa East Local Government Area in Abia State have unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Governor Alex Otti, citing his remarkable strides in infrastructure and development across the state.

The decision was taken at an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting held on Wednesday at the council headquarters in Akwete. The gathering brought together leaders across political parties, traditional rulers, clergy, women, and youth groups who reaffirmed their total support for the Governor to complete his developmental vision for Abia State.

After deliberating on Governor Otti’s administration in the past two years and three months, participants expressed confidence that his first tenure will bring about unprecedented infrastructural transformation never before witnessed since the creation of the state.

The motion for the vote of confidence was moved by Hon. Ken Okere, a former two-term commissioner at the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), and seconded by Royal Super High Chief Israel Nwahunanya (Bekee Ukwa), a former PDP council chairman and state treasurer.

The people of Ukwa East commended Governor Otti for the ongoing reconstruction of the Ohanku and Obohia roads in Aba, which lead directly to Ukwa East communities. They appealed to the Governor to ensure the projects extend into Ukwa East towns to improve accessibility and give the people a stronger sense of belonging in the present administration.

Earlier in his address, the Executive Chairman of Ukwa East, Hon. Chibunna Akara, highlighted achievements recorded by the council since his assumption of office in November last year. These include road rehabilitation, renovation of council buildings, sponsorship of students for WAEC examinations, and digital skills training for over 30 youths, with an additional 50 set to benefit in the next phase of the program.

He further disclosed that peace has been sustained in the area through close collaboration with security agencies and local vigilante groups. According to him, solar-powered water projects are ongoing across the ten wards of the council, with six already completed. He also noted that the state government has earmarked 20 schools for reconstruction, commenced the building of an ultra-modern high court at Akwete, and is renovating ten health centres across the council.

Speaking at the meeting, the State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, assured residents that the Obohia and Ohanku road projects will be completed and extended into Ukwa East. He further announced that the government has concluded plans to construct a general hospital in Ohanku and a new road through the Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP), which will connect several villages.

Prince Kanu described Governor Otti as a leader sensitive to the plight of all Abians regardless of location and urged the people to sustain their support for his administration.

The meeting also featured goodwill messages from prominent stakeholders, including Hon. Lewis Obianyi, member representing Ukwa East in the Abia State House of Assembly; HRH Eze Ikeagwuchi Ekeke; Lady Dr. Ngozi Nwagbara, former mayor of the council and commissioner at the Local Government Service Commission; Dr. Chika Emuchay, former Commissioner for Health; and several others.

They praised the council chairman for convening the forum, noting it was the first time such a broad-based gathering of stakeholders, cutting across party lines, was held in the council. They urged him to sustain the initiative as a platform for collective dialogue and progress.

Stakeholders also raised challenges facing the area, such as electricity shortages and boundary disputes, and agreed to set up committees to work out solutions.

In unison, the people reaffirmed their unwavering support for Governor Alex Otti, pledging to stand firmly behind his administration as it continues to deliver developmental projects across Abia State.
