Former Super Eagles captain, Uche Okechukwu and a former staff of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Eric Asomugha are lead contestants for the chairmanship position of the Abia State Football Association.
The duo along with two others, Obioma Oyeaghala and Paul Obinna Peter will slug it out in what looks a fierce battle.
Okechukwu, popularly known as ‘Gentle Giant’ featured for the Super Eagles at the USA ‘94 World Cup and also captained the team to the France ‘98. He was capped 47 times for Nigeria since his debut in the 2-0 defeat of Cote d’Ivoire on 25 January 1990. His last match was Nigeria’s 1-4 loss to Denmark on 28 June 1998 at the World Cup.

Asomugha, a former online editor for CAF website is a former webmaster and internal information manager for the Confederation of African Football, CAF.
The four chairmanship headline the contest which will also feature 10 other candidates battling for various positions.
According to the list released by the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Emeka Ngborogwu and the Secretary, Ikeme Kalu Daniel, the 14 candidates have been screened to contest.
The election is slated for next week Friday. Asomugha has however raise concerns that up till Friday morning, the list electorates have not been released to enable contestants to campaign and seek for their votes.
The Abia State Football Association congress is composed of 24, 17 of who are chairmen of various local government football councils.
The rest are representatives of the Nigeria Premier League in the state as well as those of the Nigeria National League, the Nationwide League, Female League, Coaches Association, the Referees Association, the Referees and the Players Association.
