Two suspected criminals were taken into custody by Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps operations from the Kano State Command for posing as civil defense employees.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed the arrest in a statement he released on Monday.
He said the suspects, Muhammad Sarari, 43, a resident of Goron Dutse, Dala local government, and Madaki Zaharaddeen, 32, of Hotoro quarters, Nassarawa local government, were apprehended in Kano.
“The suspects were impersonating by parading themselves as civil defense staff. They used to storm some ministries and agencies of government in Kano, intimidating top government officials and extorting money from them,” Abdullahi said.
He, however, said that luck ran out of them when they walked into the premises of a renowned television station in the state, intimidated and threatened a top management staff of the media house in exchange for cash.
“They were thereafter caught by personnel of the Corps, Tarauni Divisional Office, and brought to the state headquarters for interrogation.
“Upon investigation, the duo confessed to the crime, and one of the suspects was found in possession of a fake identity card of the NSCDC and an innerwear bearing the service logo of the Corps,” he said.
He said the investigation has been concluded and the suspects would be charged with impersonation of a public servant, conspiracy, intimidation, and extortion.
