“Trump Told The Truth” — Senator Kalu Backs U.S. President On Killings In Nigeria

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission (SEDC), Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (APC, Abia North), has declared his support for recent comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump concerning insecurity and killings in Nigeria, describing Trump’s statement as “nothing but the truth.”

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Kalu said the American leader’s remarks on the rising attacks across Nigeria reflect the reality of the situation, stressing that both Christians and Muslims have been victims of terrorism and violent extremism.

“If it’s a lie, then the answer is that it’s not a lie because he said the truth. Nigerians are being killed, whether they are Christians or Muslims,” Kalu stated. “There are jihadists who just want to destroy Nigeria. We should blacklist them without pity so that they will be smoked out.”

The former Abia State Governor disclosed that he had previously held discussions with two former U.S. Presidents—one Republican and one Democrat—as well as six serving U.S. Senators, all of whom expressed willingness to support Nigeria in tackling terrorism.

Kalu emphasized that Trump’s comments were not made without intelligence backing, noting that the U.S. intelligence community is known for conducting thorough investigations before making public statements.

“Before President Trump says a word, the American intelligence community must have found out where these terrorists are located,” he said. “You can see that the Nigerian Air Force is already acting, possibly using information shared by the U.S. to bomb terrorist hideouts. That’s how it should be.”

Declaring himself a “pro-America” politician, Senator Kalu traced the roots of global instability to the U.S.-led interventions in Libya and Iraq that toppled Muammar Gaddafi and Saddam Hussein. He argued that those actions led to the proliferation of arms across Africa and the Middle East.

“When you killed Gaddafi and Saddam Hussein, it became a problem because those people were maintaining their borders. After their deaths, light and heavy arms spilled all over the world, and we are suffering from it today,” he explained.

Kalu also dismissed insinuations that America’s position was politically targeted at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, insisting that Washington’s concern is centered on the growing threat of jihadist groups operating within Nigeria.

“Nigerians are clapping hands, and political opponents are thinking the U.S. is after Tinubu’s government. No! They are going after the jihadists,” he asserted.

The senator’s comments come amid renewed global concern over terrorist attacks, killings, and sectarian violence in various parts of Nigeria, particularly in the North East and North Central regions.
