Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully neutralized 16 ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists during a military operation in the Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The Nigerian Army disclosed the development on Friday through a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle. According to the Army, the terrorists were spotted at about 1 a.m. and were immediately engaged by troops using sustained indirect fire.
“The main thrust of the attack targeted the Brigade, prompting the swift deployment of air support to reinforce ground troops,” the Army stated.
It explained that a combined effort from both land forces and aerial reinforcements overwhelmed the insurgents during nearly two hours of intense fighting, leading to their retreat.
“16 terrorists were neutralised during the encounter. A pursuit operation is currently ongoing to track down fleeing elements,” the Army added.
The military also confirmed that during the firefight, an ammunition storage area was hit. However, the situation was quickly brought under control, and no further escalation was reported.
Reaffirming its dedication to the ongoing anti-terror campaign, the Army emphasized its determination to defeat insurgents and restore lasting peace to Nigeria’s North East.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to sustaining an offensive against all terrorist elements in the North East and restoring lasting peace to the region.
