A devastating stampede occurred at the Christ the King Catholic Church (CKC) in Aba on Sunday, November 25th, resulting in the tragic loss of two women’s lives and leaving several others injured.
The incident happened after the procession of Christ the King, when a large crowd gathered at the venue. Security personnel blocked the entrance, causing the women to fall in the ensuing chaos. Despite being rushed to Mendel Hospital in Aba, they sadly succumbed to their injuries.
A young boy, Peter Clever, who survived the stampede, is currently receiving medical care at Victorious Hospital. He has made a heartfelt appeal for help in reconnecting with his family. Peter explained that he had been attending the event at Blessed Iwene Tansi’s Parish, while his mother was at St. Theresa’s Parish in Aba.
The community is in shock following this tragic event, and our thoughts are with the families of the deceased and those injured.
