President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally sworn in Mr. Peter Ogbonna Eze as the Federal Character Commission (FCC) Commissioner representing Enugu State, alongside the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Mrs. Ayo Hulayat Omidiran from Osun State, and 36 other commissioners drawn from across the federation.
The brief but significant ceremony took place on Thursday at the State House, Abuja, where President Tinubu charged the newly inaugurated members to uphold integrity, fairness, and a strong sense of national responsibility in the discharge of their duties, in line with the expectations of Nigerians.
The swearing-in was witnessed by members of the Federal Executive Council, senior government officials, and other distinguished guests.
Mr. Eze, an economist and public administrator from Aji in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, was confirmed by the Senate on November 27, 2025. His confirmation followed his appointment by President Tinubu, which was announced earlier on August 1, 2025, by the President’s spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, as part of a list of 36 nominees representing the states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
Among other commissioners inaugurated were Lawal Ya’u Roni (Jigawa), Abubakar Atiku Bunu (Kebbi), Eludayo Eluyemi (Osun), Abdulwasiu Kayode Bawalla (Lagos), Victor Ikeji (Abia), and Bema Olvadi Madayi (Adamawa).
Also sworn in were Dora Ebong (Akwa Ibom), Nnoli Nkechi Gloria (Anambra), Babangida Adamu Gwana (Bauchi), Tonye Okio (Bayelsa), Aligba Eugene Tarkende (Benue), Modu Mustapha (Borno), Dr. Stella Odey Ekpo (Cross River), Ederin Lovette Idisi (Delta), Nwokpor Vincent Nduka (Ebonyi), Victor Sabor Edoror (Edo), Sola Fokanle (Ekiti), and Ibrahim Baba Mairiga (Gombe).
Others include Jerry Alagbaoso (Imo), Ruth Jumai Ango (Kaduna), Muhammad Awwal Nayya (Kano), Anas Isah (Katsina), Bello Idris Eneye (Kogi), Dr. Ibrahim Abdullahi (Kwara), Isah Jibrin (Niger), Comrade Ajimudu Bola (Ondo), Prince Ayodeji Aleshinloye (Oyo), Pam Bolman (Plateau), Aaron Chukwuemeka (Rivers), Aminu Tambar (Sokoto), Bobboi Bala Kaigama (Taraba), Jibir Maigari (Yobe), Sani Garba (Zamfara), and Solomon Ayuba Dagami (FCT).
Speaking on the confirmation process, Chairman of the Senate Committee that screened the nominees, Senator Onyesoh Onyesoh, disclosed that the committee received no petitions or adverse security reports against any of the appointees.
According to him, “The nominees demonstrated capacity, expertise, and a strong understanding of the Federal Character Commission’s mandate. Their appointments will strengthen the Commission’s ability to review outdated statutes and harmonise them with current realities.”
He expressed confidence that with Mrs. Omidiran as Chairman and seasoned technocrats such as Mr. Eze on the board, the FCC is well positioned to drive long-awaited institutional reforms and enhance oversight of federal appointments and the equitable distribution of national resources.
The Federal Character Commission is constitutionally mandated to promote fairness, inclusivity, and balanced representation of Nigeria’s diverse states and ethnic groups in federal appointments, agencies, and the allocation of public resources.
