Tinubu Signs Students’ Loan Bill Into Law

Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu on Monday signed into law, the Student Loan Bill, a piece of legislation which allows indigent students to access to support their tertiary education.

This is seen as the fulfilment of his promise during the presidential campaign where he assured that he will give give student loans as part of efforts to develop the education sector and also build the youth capacity.

The then presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) spoke in London, United Kingdom where he made the promise.

The law makes provision for funds to be domiciled in the Ministry of Education and will only be accessed by indigent students of tertiary institutions.

The presidency on Monday released a video of the President signing the bill while be surrounded by some aides and allies.

Femi Gbajabiamila, his Chief of Staff, and Dele Alake, a member of the APC Presidential campaign, were around the president during the signing of the historic bill.

Gbajabiamila while Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives, had sponsored the Bill.

The law is to provide easy access to higher education for indigent Nigerians through interest-free loans from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.
