Tinubu And Sanwo-Olu
Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, has claimed that President-elect Bola Tinubu “risked his life” for Nigerian democracy.
On Wednesday, he said this in a message greeting Tinubu on his 71st birthday.
Gboyega Akosile, his Chief Press Secretary, signed the statement.
Sanwo-Olu praised former Lagos Governor Akinwunmi Ambode as a “visionary, consistent, devoted, and enigmatic master strategist.”
“It is also on record that he stood solidly on the side of the Nigerian people, even at the risk of losing his life and personal property during the dark days of the military dictatorship,” the statement said.
“Throughout the annulment of the June 12 campaign to end the military interregnum and enthrone democracy, which we all enjoy today, he fought tirelessly with other progressives and pro-democracy activists.”
Tinubu canceled this year’s traditional colloquium to commemorate his birthday.
He has instead chosen special prayers and a thanking service.
