President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega, former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as Special Adviser and Coordinator of the Presidential Livestock Reform initiative.
The appointment, announced on Friday, is aimed at driving meaningful progress in the livestock sector and advancing national development efforts.
Professor Jega, who previously served as Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, co-chaired the Presidential Livestock Reform Committee alongside President Tinubu. The committee’s recommendations played a key role in the creation of the Livestock Ministry, which now has a substantive minister.
At 68, Jega brings extensive experience in public service, including his tenure as INEC chairman from 2010 to 2015. He is also a member of the International Elections Advisory Council and the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education, Kano.
His new role as Special Adviser is expected to reinforce the committee’s earlier recommendations and ensure the continued implementation of sustainable livestock reforms.
The appointment underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s livestock sector as part of broader economic and agricultural development strategies.
