Tinubu Administration Strengthens NDLEA With 46 New Vehicles To Boost Drug War

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, says President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government will continue to support the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) due to its vital role in national security.

Speaking at the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, during the commissioning of 46 new operational vehicles, Ribadu praised NDLEA Chairman Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd) for his discipline, commitment, and transformative leadership. He noted that the fight against illicit drugs is directly linked to tackling insecurity, as criminal groups often fund their activities through drug trafficking.

“These vehicles will enhance NDLEA’s ability to reach hotspots quickly, intercept traffickers, and strengthen deterrence nationwide,” Ribadu said, reaffirming that the agency will continue to receive full backing from his office and other security agencies.

Marwa described the event as a milestone, highlighting NDLEA’s achievements under Tinubu’s administration:

• Arrest of 40,887 drug offenders, including 45 major traffickers.
• Seizure of over 5.5 million kg of illicit drugs.
• Destruction of 704 hectares of cannabis farms.
• Conviction of 8,682 offenders.
• Rehabilitation of 24,173 drug users.
• Over 8,600 sensitization campaigns under the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative.

He stressed that drug abuse fuels crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, insurgency, and cult violence, making drug control a key pillar of national security.

Other dignitaries, including the Attorney General of the Federation, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, commended the NDLEA’s progress and reaffirmed support for its mission.

The newly procured vehicles—38 SUVs and 10 sedans—will be deployed nationwide, while 15 newly promoted officers were decorated with the rank of Assistant Commander General of Narcotics.
