A Nasarawa State High Court on Monday ordered the remand of Timilehin Ajayi at a correctional facility over the alleged murder of his 24-year-old girlfriend, Salome Enejo, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Ajayi, whose address remains undisclosed, was arraigned on charges of culpable homicide before Justice Simon Aboki at the High Court of Justice, Lafia.
According to the state counsel, Stanley Ifeanyi, the defendant is accused of killing Enejo in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), an act which contravenes Section 221 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria. If found guilty, the offence is punishable by death.
Ajayi pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Justice Aboki, while remanding the defendant at the Lafia Custodial Centre, emphasized the gravity of the case and assured that it would receive an accelerated hearing. He adjourned proceedings to March 17, 2025, for further hearing.
The case has drawn attention due to its sensitive nature, with authorities pledging to ensure justice is served.
