TikTok Removes Over 3.6 Million Nigerian Videos In Q1 2025 For Policy Violations

TikTok, the popular short-form video platform owned by ByteDance, took down more than 3.6 million videos uploaded by Nigerian users in the first quarter of 2025 for breaching its content guidelines.

The figure was revealed in TikTok’s Community Guidelines Enforcement Report for Q1 2025 and marks a significant 50% increase compared to the 2.4 million videos removed in the final quarter of 2024.

According to the report, 98.4% of the flagged videos in Nigeria were proactively detected—meaning they were identified and removed before any user could report them. Additionally, 92.1% of these videos were taken down within 24 hours of being posted.

The report also highlighted TikTok’s efforts to combat covert influence operations. In March 2025, the platform dismantled 129 accounts across West Africa linked to deceptive activities.

Globally, TikTok removed over 211 million videos during the same period, up from 153 million in Q4 2024. Of these, more than 184 million were identified and taken down using automated detection systems. The global proactive detection rate reached an impressive 99%.

As part of its ongoing efforts to curb fake engagement, TikTok also removed 44.7 million comments generated by fake accounts in Q1 2025.

In a statement, the company emphasized its commitment to platform integrity: “We remain vigilant in our efforts to detect external threats and safeguard the platform from fake accounts and engagement. These threats persistently probe and attack our systems, leading to occasional fluctuations in the reported metrics within these areas.

Despite this, we are steadfast in our commitment to promptly identify and remove any accounts, content, or activities that seek to artificially boost popularity on our platform.”
