Abia State governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has warned those he accused of burning refused on the state’s asphalted roads to desist, describing them as wicked.
The Governor further said it’s unfathomable how people pour refuse into gutters which he said block drainages and erect shanties indiscriminately.
In a statement issued on Monday by Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. A.C.B Agbazuere made available to ABN TV, the governor charged ASEPA authority and Transition Committee chairmen of Aba North and South to step up and arrest further occurrence.
He said, “The attention of Government has been drawn to the reckless assault on State infrastructure by unpatriotic individuals.
“Human beings burn refuse on government asphalted roads, pour refuse into gutters which block drainages, erect shanties anywhere they like, build on drainage pathways and consequently create hideouts for criminals, promote environmental degradation, dent the ecstatic value of the State and waste our collective scarce resources.
“It is unfathomable that people could drag their wickedness as far as pouring rubbish and all manner of dirt on the tarred but yet to be commissioned Osusu road in Aba.
“The Deputy General Manager and all other Managers of Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) in Aba and the Transition Committee Chairmen of Aba North, Aba South, Osisioma, Umuahia North and Ohafia, are to immediately, without fail, checkmate these absurdities in their areas of jurisdiction.”

The Governor also warned those involved in such act the desist or face the consequences of their actions.
“Dumping of refuse into gutters must stop. Damaging of tarred roads must stop. Throwing waste from moving vehicles must stop.
“All those involved in the illicit acts are advised, in their own interest, to change or face the attendant collateral consequences.
“To be forewarned is to be forearmed!” he insisted.
