Teenage Girl Chained, Locked Up By Her Mother Finally Rescued In Abia Community (Graphic Photos)

Freedom has come the way of a teenage girl identified as Ada, a native of Umuokoro Obinkita Arochukwu local government area of Abia state following her rescue on Saturday by men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC after she was chained by the neck and limbs and locked up by her parents.

The parents alleged that their little daughter is struck by a mental ailment, a situation that led to the action to prevent her from straying away, ABN TV gathered.

NSCDC Abia command says the successful operation follows a tip-off from the social media where the incident was first reported and support from civil society organizations, including Vicar Hope Foundation and the Child Protection Network.

The command further says the operation was preceded by a 24 hour of surveillance at the victim’s home.

According to eyewitness accounts, the victim was placed in chains and locked in the house by her mother identified as Blessing when the men of NSCDC in the state rescued her.

The mother had however been arrested.

Earlier, the First Lady of Abia State Dr. Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu who is also Chairman of the State Action Committee on Gender-based violence had ordered an investigation of the online posts to unravel the facts and rescue the child.

The First Lady who was represented by Chika Ojiegbe spoke to newsmen at the state Headquarters of Civil Defense Corps following the arrest and rescue.

She said there is no excuse for the inhuman treatment meted on the girl by her mother, rather she should have sought medical help for her child if her claims that her daughter had poor mental health were true. He said the first lady is concerned that abuse of any sort should occur no matter the circumstance.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Mr. Ndukwe confirmed the development saying that an arrest has been made, adding that the State Commandant of the Civil Defense Corps has directed a thorough investigation of the incident.

The State Commandant- Mr Vincent Ogu (JP) has directed a full-scale investigation while the victim has been handed over to the Mgt of Vicar Hope Foundation- a pet project of her Excellency Dr. Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu for rehabilitation, treatment, and care.
