A man middle aged man on Tuesday escaped lynching by an angry mob over allegation that he has been terrorizing the villagers, dispossessing them of their valuables at gunpoint, kidnapping and other criminal activities.
The accused person identified as “Latest Chimaobi” an indigene of Umuabali, Nvosi in Isiala Ngwa South LGA of Abia was said to have been involved in various criminal activities in the community ranging from: kidnapping, rape, armed robbery, Okada snatching among others.
Narrating how Chimaobi met his waterloo on Tuesday, a member of the local vigilante group in the area who pleaded anonymity, said based on Chimaobi’s confessional statement, he returned from a failed operation on Monday night, adding that one of the villagers saw him with a gun in the early hours of Tuesday and alerted the youths of the community.
The source said on receiving the information, they quickly confronted Chimaobi who after several beating, brought out the gun with life ammunitions while confessing that he had been involved in kidnapping, snatching of bags, machine (Okada), adding that his gang recently attacked an oil tycoon in the area where they stole some money among others.
Reacting to the decision of the Traditional Ruler of Umuabali, Eze Linus O. Nwogu to pardon Chimaobi, the source said he is not happy that the Eze begged the youth not to kill him, informing that the Police at Omoba Divisional Unit, Isiala Ngwa South, had said they were fed up with Chimaobi’s case as he had repeatedly claimed to be a mad person each time the Police arrested him.
Meanwhile, when newsbuka.com visited the village Hall of Umuabali Community where the culprit was tied up, it was discovered that the quick intervention of the traditional Ruler of Umuabali, Eze Linus O. Nwogu prevented him from being lynched by angry youth.
