Suspected Fulani Herdsmen Attack Abia Students, Kill One, 3 Hospitalised

Suspected Fulani herdsmen on Saturday attacked students of Marist Comprehensive Academy, Uturu, Abia State, killing at least one person while three others who sustained varying injuries have been hospitalised.

The deceased student, Edeh Donald along with his colleagues were attacked by the Fulani herdsmen around Ihube road in Okigwe LGA on their way from a Final Religious Profession of some Marist Brothers in Orlu, Imo State, Principal of the school Rev Bro Joachim Ezetulugo told ABN TV on Sunday.

The incident occurred at about 5:30pm.

He said two of Marist brothers work in the school, a situation which led the school management in its wisdom to send the band boys and some members of staff to represent the school.

According to the principal, before the attack happened, the function was successful.

Trouble however started when the students and staff were about 11 kilometres away from the school compound, when the suspected Fulani herdsmen emerged from the forest and opened fire on them, leading to the death of one person.

He said the hospitalised students are in stable condition.

All efforts to reach the PPRO of Abia State Command, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna for a comment proved abortive.
