Abia state chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC has taken a swipe at those calling for the postponement of its state congress scheduled to take place today, October 16, 2021, insisting that the congress will hold as scheduled.
Briefing newsmen on Friday shortly after a meeting at the party secretariat in Umuahia on Friday, the secretary of the party in Abia, Perfect Okorie stated that those elements in the party will not have their way in the call for postponement.
According to him, those calling for postponement of the congress are being misguided and misdirected for certain reasons not in the best interest of the Party. He reiterated that there is no division in the party rather needless ripples in the state APC which is normal in politics or political parties.
“The party elders have an onerous duty to ensure that peace is restored and ensure that those elements are calmed down.
“I call them elements. I don’t look at them as faction in the party. They normally exist in all sectors.
“So the party elders felt that, by advising that the party should show restraint in continuing with the congress, that that would in anyway assuage the taste of those few elements.
“But we have looked at it critically, the party in the state has looked at it critically, putting hand to hand and going through the provision of constitution of the party and saw that it is most appropriate, and that we are mandated and enjoined by the constitution to go ahead with our congresses”, he said.
Mr. Okorie assured that the party will provide a level playing field to anyone who is interested in vying for any executive position in state chapter of APC.
He encouraged the leaders of the party to mobilise delegates to come out in their numbers to participate in the exercise.
