Senate President, Ibrahim Lawan has expressed sadness over the death of Senator, representing Northern Senatorial District in Cross River State, Senator Rose Okoji Oko.
The 63-year-old lawmaker reportedly died in Uk after battling an undisclosed illness.
Reacting Lawan in a statement by his Special Adviser (Media), Ola Awoniyi, commiserated with Senator Oko’s family, the people and government of Cross River State over the loss.
He said the late Senator’s death is a loss to women in politics.
“Today, I received with shock the news of the death of Senator Rose Oko, who represented Cross River North Senatorial District at the Senate.
“My heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and the loved ones she left behind. I pray that the Almighty God will comfort them and grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.
“Her death is a great loss to the Senate and also to Nigerian women in politics. She will be greatly missed by her colleagues in the Ninth Assembly. May her soul Rest In Peace.” he added.
