South Africa Eases Visa Requirements For Nigerian Tourists, Business Travelers

South Africa has introduced significant changes to its visa process for Nigerian tourists and business travelers, eliminating the need to present physical passports during visa applications.

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced this development on Tuesday during the inauguration of the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) in Cape Town. The event was attended by Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu.

President Ramaphosa emphasized South Africa’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties by simplifying travel procedures for Nigerians. He highlighted the introduction of initiatives such as five-year multiple-entry visas for qualifying Nigerian businesspeople, which aim to enhance economic and cultural exchanges between the two nations.

“Our efforts to create a favorable environment include our simplified visa process for Nigerian businesspeople to travel to South Africa. Qualifying Nigerian businesspeople can be granted a five-year multiple entry visa,” Ramaphosa stated.

He also reflected on the robust 30-year diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and South Africa, describing it as a solid foundation for more meaningful economic cooperation. “As we mark 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, we see a bright future for our relationship. Our strong bonds of friendship provide a firm foundation for more meaningful economic cooperation,” he said.

Acknowledging the presence of numerous South African companies operating in Nigeria, Ramaphosa called for more investment and collaboration. “South Africa has always been open to Nigerian business, reflected in the number of investments and operations established in this country. But there is much more we need to do,” he noted, urging for the removal of remaining constraints to greater investment.

He also expressed South Africa’s readiness to host Nigerian investors, emphasizing his government’s commitment to improving the ease of doing business. “We look forward to seeing more Nigerian companies investing in South Africa,” Ramaphosa said.

The announcement marks a new chapter in Nigeria-South Africa relations, underscoring both nations’ aspirations for stronger economic ties and mutual prosperity.
