Son Heung-min, the longtime Tottenham Hotspur star and captain of the South Korea national team, is reportedly set to join Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC, according to multiple sources including ESPN and GiveMeSport.
The transfer deal is expected to cost LAFC around $26 million, which would break the current MLS transfer record of $22 million paid by Atlanta United for Emmanuel Latte Lath last offseason.
Son, 33, announced over the weekend his decision to leave Tottenham after ten seasons, stating that he had accomplished all he could with the North London club and was ready for “a new challenge.”
His farewell came during a friendly match against Newcastle United held in Seoul, South Korea, where he received a standing ovation and a guard of honour.
“I have a huge respect and am very grateful,” Son said in reference to his time at Tottenham.
Over a decade with Spurs, Son amassed an impressive 172 goals and 94 assists in 451 appearances across all competitions, with 127 goals in the Premier League alone. His crowning achievement came in 2025, when he helped the club win the Europa League — the first major trophy of his professional career.
Before joining Tottenham in 2015, Son played in the German Bundesliga with Hamburger SV and Bayer Leverkusen.
Internationally, Son has earned 134 caps and scored 51 goals for South Korea, making him the country’s second all-time leading scorer. He has represented South Korea in each of the last three FIFA World Cups.
At LAFC, Son will join a strong squad that also added defender Ryan Porteous from Watford on Monday. The club, currently sitting sixth in the Western Conference with a record of 10-6-6 (36 points), is pushing for another MLS playoff berth.
The addition of a global star like Son signals LAFC’s intent to remain one of the league’s most competitive and marketable clubs.
