Soldiers, Gunmen In Fierce Gun Battle In Abia

A fierce gun battle is currently underway between the Nigerian Army and unknown gunmen in Mbata, Umuchima Village, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State, ABN TV reports.

According to reports, the Nigerian Army deployed over 15 Hillux and armored vehicles to the area as early as 6 am today to engage the unknown gunmen, who have been camping in the village near the river bordering Abia State and Mbaise in Imo State.

The junctions leading to and from the village have been taken over by soldiers, while others are facing off against the unknown gunmen in the bush.

As of the time of filing this report, the sounds of gunfire can still be heard in the area.

No official statements have been issued by the Nigerian Army or the Abia State government.
