After serious crisis, Okon Aku Devt Union finally settles for interim leadership

A foremost town union in Ohafia local government area of Abia state, Okon Aku Development Union (ODU) has finally opted to set up and interim leadership headed by Mr. Nmecha Ume to manage the affairs of the union till December, 2020.

This is after failing to conduct election for a new EXCO of the union in December, 2019 as a result of protracted crisis that arose from the disqualification of candidates that indicated interest to run for various leadership positions.

The crisis was further fueled by the head of electoral committee who was accused of planting himself as interim chairman of ODU against the will of majority of the union members.

Speaking with ABN TV on Sunday, a leader in the community, Chief Ndukwe Iko expressed optimism that the setting up of the interim leadership will usher in peace in the union in readiness for election in December, 2020.

He expressed displeasure that contest into the headship of the union has become hotter with a lot of interest coming to play as against what was obtainable in the past where people were selected to lead the union.
