The Nigerian Senate has scheduled a special session for Wednesday to honour the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, following his recent passing.
According to DAILY POST, the tribute session will reflect on Buhari’s legacy and his contributions to national development over the years.
This follows a similar gesture by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), which held a special session in his honour last week.
Speaking at the FEC tribute event, President Bola Tinubu praised Buhari for leading the nation with restraint and dignity and for bearing the burdens of leadership without complaint.
The former president passed away in London on July 13 at the age of 82, after a prolonged illness that had not been publicly disclosed. He was laid to rest last week in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in a ceremony attended by dignitaries from across Nigeria and abroad.
Buhari, a native of Katsina, was Nigeria’s second-longest-serving leader. He served first as military head of state from 1983 to 1985 and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023.
