Senator Orji Uzor Kalu
The Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District and Chairman, Senate Committee on South East Development Commission (SEDC), Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has condemned the gruesome kiling of two Chinese expatriates and a police officer in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State.
Gunmen were said to have ambushed a convoy conveying the Chinese nationals and their police escorts to a mining site in the Agukwu Amaya area of Ndundu community, leading to the tragic deaths and injuries of others.
Reacting to the incident in a statement issued from his media office on Sunday and made available to ABN TV, the former Abia State Governor described the attack as unfortunate, deliberate, and unprovoked, calling for urgent action from security agencies.
“Despite our rigorous efforts to end insecurity, crimes persist. I condemn these unfortunate and unprovoked attacks that took the lives of two Chinese expatriates, a policeman, and left several others injured near the Huan Cheng Mining Quarry site in Isuikwuato,” Kalu said.
He urged the Inspector General of Police and the Abia State Government to ensure the immediate arrest and prosecution of those behind the killings, stressing the need for proactive security measures to prevent a recurrence.
Senator Kalu also extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Nigeria.
He called on security agencies to intensify efforts to safeguard lives and property, especially expatriates contributing to the nation’s economic development.
“This is a sad development. Beyond arresting the perpetrators, security around mining sites and other critical investments in the region must be strengthened to forestall future occurrences,” he added.
