Senator representing Abia North district, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu has appealed to governor Okezie Ikpeazu to intervene in major roads in Abia North to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
Sen. Kalu, former Abia governor in a chat with ABN TV on Friday said Uzuakoli, Alayi, Igbere, Abiriba, Ohafia roads, and others are in bad shape, seeking the governor’s immediate action.
The lawmaker who stated that he had earlier written to the governor regarding the state of the roads maintained that they are state roads and not federal roads as insinuated in some quarters.
According to the senator, from Umuahia to Ohafia is still in Abia, and therefore cannot be said to be a Federal road since it is not outside the state.

“While I was governor, I made sure that that road is being maintained very well. The roads need maintenance. Even overseas, roads are maintained. Why we are having challenges is because of resources. All our roads are supposed to be maintained after every two years. There should be a budgetary allocation for it,” he said.
Sen. Kalu had attracted the construction of the road through the NDDC before he became a senator.
He expressed dissatisfaction that the people of the senatorial district are putting him under pressure to maintain the roads, not knowing they are state roads.
