Security Forces Kill Biafra National Guard (BNG) Members In Abia, Recover Arms, Stolen Cars [PHOTOS, VIDEO]

A joint team of security forces comprising of the Nigerian Army and Police has killed no fewer than three suspected seperatist agitators of a new pro-Biafran group, Biafra National Guard, BNG.

This is even as Abia State Police Command through its spokesperson, ASP Geoffrey Ogbonna urges residents to go about their normal businesses, saying the police will continue to provide adequate security for all citizens.

BNG had in a viral video threatened to declare the sovereignty of the Biafran nation come October 30, 2021, warning citizens to sit-at-home.

It also insists that from the said date Biafra Pounds would be declared the officially currency it the said ‘Republic’.

The group, BNG which is led by one ‘General’ Innocent Orji is in addition to other secessionist groups in the South East region, prominent among which is the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

BNG which pledges loyalty to the leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu insists that if the IPOB leader and one Onyekachi Orji are not released, Anambra election would not hold.

They were said to have robbed motorists of their vehicles along Igbere-Arochukwu road on Thursday.

They later moved in a convoy, sacked the staff of a filling station located along the expressway and filled their vehicles ready for what they call ‘war’.

Speaking with ABN TV on the development, PPRO Abia State command, ASP Geoffrey Ogbonna said one Mr. Linus Mba had reported that two vehicles, a hummer bus and a black lexus car used in conveying his mother’s body for burial in Ohafia were blocked and snatched by heavily armed men in military camouflage suspected to be members of BNG.

The incident took place at the boundary between Ohafia and Arochukwu, the police spokesperson said.

He told ABN TV that police and military checkpoints within Abia and neighbouring states were alerted following the development.

The gunmen were later intercepted at Amaekpu Ohafia, after which a gun duel ensued between them and the security forces.

They were said to have been overpowered by the superior firepower of the security operatives.

Two of the gunmen were gunned down, others scampered for safety into the forest while four of the suspected stolen vehicles were recovered, among which are a Lexus SUV with registration number ABIA ACH 16D HRD, and a Golf car with registration number ABIA APR 447 TL and other unregistered vehicles.

Two policemen who sustained injuries were rushed to a military medical facility in the area for treatment.

According to Abia police spokesperson, the remaining gunmen were given a hot chase to Edda in Ebonyi state where they met another firepower of the security forces.

One of them he said was gunned down here, additional two vehicles were equally recovered while others escaped with bullet wounds.

He said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing gunmen, calling on residents not to panic.
