Manchester United Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo has been named as the Premier League’s Player of the Month for April.
Ronaldo, who has now claimed the award for the second time this season after first winning it in September, was announced as the winner on the Premier League Twitter handle on Thursday.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is the @EASPORTSFIFA Player of the Month for the second time this season.”
The Portuguese international, who returned to Old Trafford last summer, scored five goals in four games last month, helping United earn four points all by himself.
He bagged a hat-trick in the 3-2 win over Norwich City and the equalizer in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea, both at Old Trafford. Also, he found the back of the net in the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
He saw off competition from seven other Premier League players to earn the award, including Manchester City duo Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus.
In what has proven to be a hugely underwhelming campaign for United, Ronaldo has been a shining light, scoring 24 goals in all competitions.
Of his 24 strikes, 18 of them have come in the Premier League, meaning only Mohamed Salah (22) of Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur ace Son Heung-min (20) have scored more.
Ronaldo’s treble against Norwich marked his 50th career hat-trick in club football, while his goal at the Emirates Stadium against Mikel Arteta’s Gunners was his 100th in the Premier League.
His latest Player of the Month prize means that he is now just one behind Tottenham’s Harry Kane and former City striker Sergio Aguero in equalling the record number of Premier League Player of the Month awards that have been won. He is currently level with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard on six.
Burnley caretaker boss Mike Jackson was named the Premier League manager of the month, after picking up four crucial wins in The Clarets’ fight for survival.
Jackson replaced Sean Dyche who was sacked as Burnley’s manager following strings of poor results.
