Resting In Glory: Elder Godwin Ochor Nwankpah To Be Laid To Rest On March 13 [See Poster]

The family of Late Elder Godwin Ochor Nwankpah has announced the final journey of their beloved patriarch, whose life was marked by faith, leadership, and service. Elder Nwankpah, fondly called “Dede Ochor,” passed away on December 7, 2024, at the age of 90.

His burial is set for Thursday, March 13, 2025, in his hometown of Umuagwu Umuhu Ikem Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South L.G.A., Abia State.

The funeral rites will commence at 9:00 AM with the departure of his body from the mortuary to his compound. A lying-in-state will follow at 10:30 AM, allowing loved ones to pay their last respects. At 11:30 AM, a funeral service will be conducted by the Seventh-day Adventist Church Ikem Nvosi Group, after which Elder Nwankpah will be interred in his family compound.

A LEGACY OF EXCELLENCE AND DEVOTION

Born on May 15, 1934, in Ikem Nvosi, Nigeria, Elder Godwin Ochor Nwankpah was the cherished firstborn of Chief Paul Atulegwu and Madam Eunice Nwanyibuaku Nwankpah (née Ohia). A brilliant scholar, he excelled at St. Luke’s Elementary School and Adventist High School, where he was Senior Prefect and Chairman of the Debating Club. His passion for education led him to earn a diploma in Church Business Administration from the Adventist College of West Africa.

His missionary work took him to Liberia, where he served as an accountant at Konola Academy. He later furthered his studies at Andrews University in Michigan, earning Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Business Administration. Elder Nwankpah’s professional journey spanned both the public and private sectors. He served as Chief Management and Budget Analyst for the city of Hartford, Connecticut, while also founding Ochor and Sons International and managing his family’s palm oil business in Nigeria. His entrepreneurial spirit created job opportunities and strengthened local economies.

A MAN OF FAITH AND COMMUNITY

A devout Seventh-day Adventist, Elder Nwankpah dedicated his life to the church, serving as an elder, head elder, and treasurer at Connecticut Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church. In retirement, he embraced farming and philanthropy, supporting students and mentoring young leaders. His commitment to faith and service earned him the admiration of many.

Elder Nwankpah was a devoted family man. He married his beloved wife, Rhoda Nwankpah (née Onwueyi), in 1971, and together they raised four children. He is survived by his wife, his children—Emeka (Margarett), Egwu (Saba), and Amarachi—as well as his nephew, grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Levi and Gad, and his second son, Chijioke Obinna (Obi) Nwankpah, Elder Nwankpah’s legacy of wisdom, integrity, and generosity will continue to inspire those who knew him.

As his family prepares to bid him farewell, they take solace in his unshakable faith and the hope of a glorious resurrection. Elder Godwin Ochor Nwankpah now rests in eternal peace, awaiting the return of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
