Reps Summons Rivers’s Sole Administrator, Ibas For Interactive Session

The Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight has invited the state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), for an interactive session scheduled for Thursday, April 17, 2025.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Akin Rotimi, the session will take place at 4 p.m. in Room 414 of the House of Representatives New Building, National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

The invitation follows the inauguration on Tuesday of a 21-member committee chaired by House Leader Professor Julius Ihonvbere. The committee was constituted following a resolution by the National Assembly approving the presidential proclamation of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

Professor Ihonvbere emphasized the importance of the engagement, stating, “This engagement is necessary to ascertain the true state of affairs in Rivers State and ensure that the House remains properly guided in the discharge of its oversight responsibilities in the public interest.”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently declared a state of emergency in the South-South state, citing a prolonged political crisis. In a sweeping move, the President suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the State House of Assembly.

To stabilize the governance of the state, President Tinubu appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.) as the Sole Administrator.

The interactive session is expected to provide insights into the current situation in Rivers and the progress made since the federal intervention.
