The House of Representatives, yesterday, raised a motion of urgent public importance over a series of deadly bandit attacks on communities in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State, which have left at least six people dead, 20 others abducted, and properties worth millions of naira destroyed.
The motion, sponsored by Bello Kumo, drew attention to the recent coordinated assaults on Garin Galadima, Pindiga, Garin Jaji, Laro, and neighboring villages—incidents that have sparked widespread fear, forced mass displacement, and devastated livelihoods.
Speaking during plenary in Abuja, Kumo lamented that the persistent attacks have compelled many residents to abandon their homes, deepening humanitarian crises and worsening insecurity in the region.
He described the attacks as a grim reminder of the growing menace of armed banditry across the country, emphasizing that safeguarding citizens’ lives and property remains a constitutional duty of government.
“The continued killings, abductions, and destruction in Akko communities underscore the urgent need for decisive and coordinated security action to protect innocent Nigerians,” the House stated.
Adopting the motion, lawmakers urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to immediately deliver relief materials to victims and displaced residents.
They also called on President Bola Tinubu to direct the Chief of Defence Staff to initiate a comprehensive joint military operation—combining aerial surveillance and ground support—to dismantle the bandits’ hideouts and restore peace in the affected areas.
