Rep. Benjamin Kalu Breaks Silence On Viral Video Of Bende-Etitiulo-Itumbauzo Road, Says Past Representatives Abandoned It For 39 Years (VIDEO)

The member representing Bende Federal Constituency, Rep. Benjamin Kalu has broken silence on the recent video made by one Mr. Chinedu Obilor on the current state of Etitiulo-Bende-Itumbauzo Road.

He said the road is currently a work in progress by the distinguished Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu which is yet to be completed.

In a detailed video released by the spokesperson House of Representatives, he took time to analyze the state of the road prior to the intervention of the Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu who is facilitating the reconstruction of portion of the project.

Rep. Kalu explained that the road has been abandoned for over 39 years by the past representatives of the constituency to the point of splitting into two due to the ecological degradation thus making the road impassable by members of the Etitiulo Community.

He further stated that as a result of the bad state of the road and its urgency to be fixed, he also tabled the project on the floor of the House of Representatives where it was approved, and subsequently availed him the opportunity to commence rehabilitation of other portions of the road executed by the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), adding that he has since completed and commissioned the first and second phase with others still in progress.

He emphasized that the road is a 23km road which may not been fixed at once as a result of paucity of funds.

He added that while the role of the legislators is not to execute the project as it is in the parameters of the agency appointed by the executives to carry out the project while they monitor at intervals.

Rep. Kalu highlighted that the Senator has indeed made efforts on the project which has collapsed the first time as a result of the soil topography, regardless of the unavailability of funds, he has strived to see to the success of the project.

The lawmaker added that the contractor is still on site and will ensure that the damage on the road is currently looked into.

He urged citizens to verify facts and explore the right channels when issuing complaints around projects facilitated by their leaders to avoid misleading the general public.
