Among the countless blessings of Ramadan, none is greater or more spiritually significant than Laylatul Qadr—the Night of Decree or the Night of Majesty. This sacred night embodies the vast mercy of Allah and represents an extraordinary opportunity for believers to seek forgiveness, renewal, and divine blessings.
Allah highlights the greatness of this night in the Qur’an: “Indeed, We sent it [the Qur’an] down during the Night of Decree. And what will make you know what the Night of Decree is? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.” (Qur’an 97:1–3)
The revelation of the Qur’an began on this night, marking the moment when divine guidance descended upon humanity through Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. Because of this event, Laylatul Qadr is not only a historical milestone but also a continuing source of spiritual grace for the Muslim community.
One of the most remarkable aspects of Laylatul Qadr is the immensity of Allah’s mercy manifested during this night. Worship performed during this single night is described as being better than worship performed for more than eighty-three years. This extraordinary reward demonstrates that Allah provides opportunities for His servants to achieve immense spiritual gain within limited time.
The Prophet s.a.w emphasized the importance of seeking this night during the last ten nights of Ramadan, particularly the odd nights. He said: “Seek Laylatul Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan.”

Because the exact date is not definitively known, believers are encouraged to intensify their worship throughout these nights. This divine wisdom ensures continuous devotion rather than complacency.
Laylatul Qadr is also described as a night when angels descend with blessings and divine decrees for the coming year. Allah says:
“The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.” (Qur’an 97:4–5).
The atmosphere of peace and mercy during this night creates a profound spiritual environment where prayers are accepted and hearts are transformed.
For this reason, the Prophet s.a.w taught a special supplication for Laylatul Qadr: “O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness, so forgive me.” (Tirmidhi).
