Yusuf Magaji, a 13-year-old Qur’anic school student, drowned in a pond at Makugara village in Kano State’s Karaye Local Government Area on Thursday.
Saminu Abdullahi, spokesman for the Kano State Fire Service, confirmed the disaster in a statement made in Kano on Friday.
“We received an emergency call, and we sent our rescue team to the scene but Yusuf was brought out of the pond unconscious.”
“Our men conveyed him to Karaye Specialist Hospital when a doctor confirmed him dead,’’ Abdullahi stated.
He stated that the body was turned over to Malam Nafi’u Na-Adama, the proprietor of the Qur’anic institution.
Abdullahi explained that Yusuf and others were on their way to a neighboring village when he slipped inside and couldn’t get out.
