Protest: Why I Can’t Tell Aba People To React — Sen. Kalu Breaks Silence

Following the protest that rocked Aba after the declaration of PDP’s Chimaobi Ebisike winner of the recently concluded Aba North/South Federal Constituency bye-election by INEC, former governor of Abia State, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu has vowed not to instruct his supporters to react to the protest, saying he is a lover of peace.

Though the reason for the protest allegedly sponsored by the PDP, the party that won the election is not known, ABN TV gathered that the protesters carried placards with disparaging inscriptions against former governor Kalu.

Recall that a younger brother of the Abia North Senator, Mascot Uzor Kalu took part in the election as the APC candidate.

Speaking with newsmen on Tuesday shortly after inspecting a road project in Nkporo community, Ohafia local government area of the, the Senate Chief Whip said he is only concerned with meeting and surpassing the expectation of his constituents, adding that he is not distracted by the protest.

He said, “They can only talk, these are talking matters. I was in Aba for ten days, you journalists saw that. I walked on the road, I was very open. They can’t do it while I was there.

If they do it, they know what will happen. If I ask Aba people to react, it will be very difficult. I won’t do that because I am a lover of peace.

“I want them to spend their energy solving the problem of Aba not protesting. Protesting for who? You brought in thugs, took the election and we congratulated you even though you took the election and you are still protesting. We have learnt our lessons. That will not happen again.”
