Presidential Election Fell Below Expectations, Says Baba-Ahmed

Yusuf Baba-Ahmed Datti, the vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has noted that the just concluded 2023 presidential elections fell below standard.

Speaking in Hausa in an interview, he explained that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, should not have announced the result of the presidential election without attending to complaints and rectifying all the anomalies brought before it.

He assured of the party’s determination to take action in saving Nigeria and protecting the sanctity of votes cast in last Saturday’s election.

He reiterated that the electoral commission is violating the law, stressing that it violated the Electoral Act 64 sub-section 4 and section 65 of the Electoral Act 2022 as amended.

According to him, “The Act has stipulated that it was mandatory that at the completion of an election, the result must be transmitted to what was called IREV.”

He added that an electoral officer must not document the election result without ensuring that the result has been transmitted to the IREV.

He said the act stated that INEC could only consider results in the IREV and not those written manually.

He enjoined all Nigerians to be calm and go about their normal business while awaiting the truth to prevail.
