The Premier League has revealed that the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) will undergo significant changes ahead of the 2024-25 season.
Since its debut in the 2019-20 season, VAR has been involved in a number of contentious occurrences.
Ahead of the new season, which begins this week, the Premier League outlined new efforts to address such issues.
On Tuesday, the Premier League unveiled a new account on X that will provide “near-live” explanations of referee decisions.
“In the absence of live VAR audio being broadcast, as it is not permitted in football, the Premier League Match Centre will be able to relay on social media near-live information from the VAR Hub during a game,” the statement reads in part.
