The Interpol Systems Consultant and the CEO Sheikhs and Bishops Ltd, Sir Chikwe Udensi has attributed the ineffective policing system in the country to poor welfare package of men and officers of the force.
Speaking with ABN TV at the weekend, Sir Udensi while maintaining that the Nigeria police are poorly remunerated among their counterparts across the world said the state of barracks depicts what is wrong the country’s police welfare.
While likening the services of a frustrated policeman to the decision taken in anger that can produce no positive result, Udensi said their salaries are not a livable wage.
He said till the welfare of police officers are given adequate attention, corruption and gratification will continue to ravage the Force which he said constitute 80 per cent of their income.

According to the security expert, civil servants are also confronted with poor welfare which he said affects productivity.
“The country has enough resources to afford a livable wage. All we need to do is to plug the leakages. There is enough for our needs. The challenge we have is that we don’t have enough for our greed. Greed is more than need.
“Those waiting to steal are more than those already stealing now. Some Nigerians are willing to steal, not because they were born bad but because the system has not offered the opportunity to live out of decent means of livelihood.
“These are underlying ill health of the Nigeria police. We are also confronted with the issue of tools. Every profession has its tools. As a cardiologist, irrespective of how many years you have spent on the job, if there are not tools, you cannot perform” he stated.
