Police Reactivate Digital Tinted Glass Permit System Nationwide

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reactivated the issuance of Tinted Glass Permits (TGP) across the country through a newly upgraded digital platform, as part of efforts to enhance national security and reduce public harassment.

In a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi and made available to ABN TV, the initiative, approved by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, seeks to provide a transparent and secure system for regularizing the use of factory-fitted tinted vehicle windows.

The police noted that tinted vehicles have been exploited for various criminal activities including kidnapping, armed robbery, and “one-chance” operations, often obstructing law enforcement efforts. The new digital platform, accessible via possap.gov.ng, incorporates identity verification through NIN and TIN, biometric data, and background checks to ensure proper scrutiny.

Applicants will now receive QR-coded digital permits within 72 hours of application. A 30-day grace period beginning May 1, 2025, has been granted for motorists to obtain the required permits, after which enforcement will commence.

The police warned officers against extortion or harassment during enforcement, emphasizing that erring personnel will face strict disciplinary measures.

IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to citizen-focused and technology-driven policing, urging Nigerians to cooperate with the process for improved public safety.
