The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested a key suspect allegedly involved in the June 2015 abduction of High Court Judge, Justice Eniyerin Omukoro.
The suspect, identified as ‘Ogbono’, a postgraduate student of a federal university, was apprehended by operatives of Operation Puff Adder. He was reportedly found in possession of an old model white Hilux van believed to have been used in the abduction.
According to police sources, intelligence reports and mobile phone data retrieved from the crime scene linked the suspect to individuals earlier arrested in connection with the incident.
Operatives of Operation Puff Adder, led by Chris Nwaogbo, reportedly tracked the suspect for weeks, maintaining surveillance on two of his properties located in the Edepie area of Yenagoa.
He was eventually arrested when he visited one of the properties to issue a quit notice to tenants. Despite arriving with military escorts, the suspect was taken into custody by the waiting police team.
Police sources revealed that one of the properties had previously yielded crucial evidence — including a motorcycle belonging to a dismissed police officer still at large for his alleged role in the abduction.
Justice Omukoro was kidnapped on June 21, 2015, at an eatery in the Ekeki area of Yenagoa. He was released after being held captive for 12 days.
The latest arrest marks a major breakthrough in the long-standing investigation into the judge’s abduction.
