A Labour Party ward chairman in Ibeku West, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, Mr Michael Nwachukwu has been detained at the Central Police Station (CPS) Umuahia, the state capital over his alleged involvement in the destruction of houses and car, as well as use of dangerous weapons on some women at Umuhu Ajata in the local government, ABN TV learned.
He allegedly led youths numbering 50 to launch an attack on the family of one Engr Orji whom they accused of allegedly stopping the grading of a rural road, a project facilitated by the Mayor Of Umuahia North Local Government Area Chief Victor Ikeji.
It was gathered that the attack on Engr Orji Obinna and family was not the first as in 2002, the people of Avonkwu were alleged to have led a dangerous attack on same family, burnt their house and rendered them homeless over a community land which has already been settled by the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Mr Michael Nwachukwu who is also the vice chairman of Avonkwu Community and the chairman Apostle Silas Chikezie were accused of mobilizing the youths who carried out the dastardly act.
According to PUO reports (not ABN TV), when contacted, the Member Representing Umuahia East State Constituency who is also the Deputy Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly Rt Hon Austin Okezie said he is not in support of the alleged destruction of properties, assuring that he would collaborate with the Police to get to the root of the matter.
