LAGOS — The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Kosiso Chukwem-Nenyem, accused of sending bomb threat messages to two schools in the Ikeja Government Reserved Area (GRA) last week. The arrest came as police also announced the dismantling of a 21-member “one-chance” robbery syndicate operating across the state.
According to reports, at about 4 p.m. on January 20, 2026, the Human Resources Manager and Chief Security Officer of two private schools (names withheld) in Ikeja separately reported to the police that they had received alarming WhatsApp messages from an unknown number, claiming that explosive devices had been planted within their school premises.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja, Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, said tactical teams were immediately deployed, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit and the Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU).
“No explosive device was found, and both schools were declared safe,” the CP confirmed. “Further investigation led to the arrest of Kosiso Chukwem-Nenyem, a resident of Okota, who was identified as the sender of the threat messages.”
Although the suspect initially claimed he had lost his phone in November 2025, police investigations showed that he continued to use the same SIM card during the period the threats were issued, even receiving calls from family members.
“This individual acted alone and deliberately attempted to cause panic among parents and school authorities. He will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” CP Jimoh stated.
Crackdown on “One-Chance” Robbers
In a separate operation, the Lagos Police Command announced the arrest of 21 suspects belonging to a notorious “one-chance” syndicate notorious for robbing unsuspecting passengers across the metropolis.
The CP revealed that the syndicate’s activities were uncovered through coordinated intelligence efforts, leading to the recovery of 25 stolen vehicles, including six operational vehicles used in their criminal operations.
“We have arrested an additional eight suspects in recent days, bringing the total to 21,” Jimoh said. “Four more operational vehicles were recovered, and investigations are ongoing to dismantle the remaining network.”
The Lagos State Police Command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, assuring the public that the command remains committed to ensuring safety and restoring public confidence across the state.
