Peter Obi, LP To Challenge Election Results In Only 18 States

The Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, says he and the party will contest the results of the February 25 election in only 18 states.

On Thursday, Emeka Okpoko, counsel to Obi and LP, stated while tendering documents during the resumed hearing of the party’s joint case filed before the presidential election petition court.

The petitioners, according to Nigeria’s senior attorney (SAN), do not want to waste efforts in states where they have “decisively and uncontestedly won.”

However, at the conclusion of Thursday’s sessions, the petitioners presented only six states’ verified electoral records received from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Rivers (15 LGAs), Benue (23 LGAs), Cross River (18 LGAs), Niger (21 LGAs), Osun (20 LGAs), and Ekiti (16 LGAs) were the states.

The court admitted the documents, primarily Forms EC8A and election results from polling units, as exhibits.

However, INEC, represented by Kemi Pinheiro, objected to the document’s admissibility.

Adebayo Adelodun, who represented President Bola Tinubu and his vice, Kashim Shetima, also argued against the electoral documents’ acceptability.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) was also represented by Afolabi Fashanu, and all responses stated that they would reserve their concerns until the final address.

The petition’s next hearing date has been set for June 2.
