The Social Democratic Party, SDP, has denied supporting All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, and Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde in the run-up to the general elections.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, National Secretary Saleh Dass clarified the situation.
Dass recalled that the National Working Committee, NWC, only gave advice to state chapters because of the ongoing court case over the leadership’s legitimate constitution.
The directive stated they were free to form alliances “with an opposition party” for the February and March elections.
Dass stated that those who aligned with the ruling APC and the PDP in Oyo violated the SDP’s resolution.
The NWC has formed a five-member committee, with Senator Ebenezer Ikeyina serving as Chairman, according to the secretary.
Members include Mallam Nasiru N’Abba, Mr. Kelvin Damara, and Mrs. Y. Nolan, with Mrs. Adenike Olujembola serving as Secretary.
The committee is to meet regarding the reports that some leaders of the SDP in Oyo and elsewhere are supporting Tinubu and Makinde “contrary to the directive of the party”.
