PEPT: Peter Obi Not A Registered Member Of Labour Party – President Tinubu’s Counsel

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Vice, Senator Kashim Shettima, on Wednesday, tendered a copy of the Labour Party (LP) membership register for Anambra State in their joint efforts to prove their claim that the Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is not a registered member of the party.

Tinubu and Shettima, listed as second and third respondents in Obi, LP’s petition numbered CA/PEPC/03/2023 challenging the outcome of the presidential election, argued in their response to the petition that because Obi was not a member of the party at the time of the last presidential election, he was ineligible to run on the LP platform.

Wole Olanipekun (SAN), Tinubu and Shetimma’s lead counsel presented the document along with LP’s letter dated April 25, 2022, delivering the membership record to Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The records were tendered alongside other documents on Wednesday, as Tinubu and Shettima began their defense in Obi, LP’s appeal challenging their presidential election victory.

Despite an objection to their acceptance by the petitioner’s lead counsel, Dr. Livy Uzoukwu (SAN), the court allowed the documents and marked them as exhibits.
